jit, juke and going dumb.

one of the many things that fascinates me about the geographical vastness of the US, is that just as music evolved differently according to city and region, various unique dancing accompanied these sounds accordingly. my favorites being detroits – jit, chicagos – juke, and oakland’s – going dumb or other variations of this. i would have to say out of the 3, the bay area has really taken the lead.

OIL SPILL

it’s still too far in advance to even predict what scale this environmental disaster is going to have on the ocean and our planet. however, i can say that this latest example from the mentality and fallout of a business as usual attitude, really just proves we are a species that doesn’t prepare, change or anticipate anything much further than two feet in front of us. i have always tried to feel that there was something worth saving about makind, but as of late i really am starting to look forward to seeing the collective smug grin wiped off the western worlds face when it all comes crashing down.

REQUIEM FOR DETROIT.

this is a great documentary from the bbc. if you want to understand america, there’s no better place to start than in detroit. she is the bastard child of capitalism. an abandoned whore we once lusted for. and a shape of things to come.

david cross and aziz ansari dvd’s

just picked up both aziz ansari’s intimate moments for a sensual evening and david cross’s bigger and blackerer. they are both really fantastic. watching them back to back, I noticed how aziz ansari’s humor is so beautifully modern day. I certainly wouldn’t expect people over a certain age to understand any of it though, especially the online chat room humor between him and his cousin. but I love that the material is that technologically ballsy. the guy is just so fucking funny. nothing else to say.
david cross always straddles the line between a very serious social commentary and bursts of childish quips. I find myself wishing for hours of his more political material. he has this real brilliant darkness to him that is just peaking through in the gentlest of ways. wish I could see more of him in show or film.
oddly I tried stopping aziz ansari one time when I was in l.a in his car outside of this cafe to ask him if he was performing anywhere, but I think he thought I was a raaaaaaandy fan and got freaked out and sped away.

bees

they just confirmed the suspicions that cell phone use is indeed killing off bees.  bees pollinate over half over our food supply.

the larry sanders show

i recently started watching all the larry sanders shows as every dvd commentary I ever listen too seems to mention it as a huge influence on their shows. most people missed it but it holds it’s own amongst the best comedies ever made. if you like curb your enthusiasm, then this will blow your mind. was the first show for so many of the new greats.
